Job Summary
The Chief Investment Officer / Head of Investments is responsible for managing discretionary and non-discretionary investment portfolios in line with clients’ investment objectives, risk profiles, and regulatory guidelines. The role involves asset allocation, security selection, portfolio monitoring, risk management, and performance reporting, while ensuring compliance with Nigerian regulatory requirements and internal investment policies. The Portfolio manager will manage various funds in GAML and develop new products in line with the Economic direction of the country
Job Details
Portfolio Management & Investment Execution
- Manage assigned portfolios across asset classes including equities, fixed income, money market instruments, and alternative investments where applicable.
- Develop and implement portfolio strategies aligned with client mandates, risk tolerance, and return objectives.
- Execute trades efficiently while minimizing transaction costs and market impact.
- Conduct regular portfolio rebalancing based on market conditions and investment guidelines.
- Product creation in line with emerging trends and customer needs
Research & Analysis
- Conduct fundamental and macroeconomic analysis of Nigerian and global markets.
- Analyze financial statements, valuation metrics, yield curves, and market trends.
- Generate investment ideas and recommendations supported by quantitative and qualitative research.
Risk Management
- Monitor portfolio risk metrics such as duration, concentration limits, volatility, and drawdowns.
- Ensure portfolios comply with internal risk limits and regulatory investment thresholds.
- Stress-test portfolios under different market scenarios.
Client & Stakeholder Management
- Prepare portfolio performance reports and investment commentary for clients and internal stakeholders.
- Participate in client meetings, presentations, and investment review sessions.
- Address client inquiries related to portfolio performance and strategy.
Compliance & Governance
- Ensure full compliance with SEC Nigeria regulations, pension fund guidelines (where applicable), and internal investment policies.
- Maintain accurate documentation of investment decisions and approvals.
- Work closely with Compliance, Risk, and Operations teams to ensure seamless portfolio execution and reporting.
- Enhance key reputation with High-Net-Worth individuals and their influencers.
- Lead or participate in the closing of new businesses
- Ensure the implementation of Trust policies and procedures in line with the company’s strategic objectives
- Ensure proper documentation of all Trust Relationships and effectively maintain Trust files
- Maintain compliance with all internal policies and procedures as well as with regulatory and legal requirements
- Mitigate risk on an individual book of business
- Contribute to the development of new Trust products and develop proposals for Prospects
- Ensure the proper investment of funds held under the Trustee or Nominee arrangement.
Requirements
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field.
- A Master’s degree is an added advantage.
Professional Certifications
- Relevant certifications such as CFA, CISI, ACA, or ACIB are strongly preferred.
Experience
- Minimum of 7-15 years’ experience in portfolio management, investment research, or asset management.
- Strong understanding of the Global Markets, Nigerian capital markets, fixed income instruments, Commodities market and regulatory environment.
